“It’s the most wonderful time of the year…”

Ah you gotta love that Andy Williams Christmas classic!!!!!

So I’m jumping on the old ‘12 Days of Christmas’ band-wagon and offering my tuppence worth on a few products that I love. They range in prices from stocking fillers to lavish gifts so have a good goo and see if anything takes your fancy…

1. Dr Hauschka Clarifying Toner

For oily, blemished or combination skin. It’ll shrink those pores in no time. Contains among other things anthyllis (balances), calendula (anti-inflammatory/anti-viral) and nasturium (natural antibiotic).

Tip: spray 2 pumps into your hand and then pat into skin…spraying directly onto your face will lose you precious product!!! This is also brilliant for men directly after shaving.

Cost: €30

2. Atlantic Aromatics Organic Bulgarian Rosewater

If you haven’t come across this brand yet…go seek them out. They’re Irish, based in Wicklow and this is my desert island must-have!!! Love it. Contains 100% Rosa damascena flower water.

Tip: Don’t spare this bad boy, spray it liberally, as often as you drink water during the day. If your body’s thirsty, your skin is thirsty.

Cost: €8

3. Dead Sea Spa Magik Shampoo

Crammed with mud, salt and mineral extracts from the Dead Sea this shampoo is deeply moisturising. If you have a dry, itchy scalp this will nourish your skin and leave your hair silky soft.

Tip: If you are prone to oily hair use it sparingly and maybe every other day.

Cost: €10

4. Green Angel Sunrise Body Smoother

If you love a fresh lemon scent and baby soft skin (who doesn’t!) you need to try this. Packed with natural salt, lemon, grapefruit and added Argan oils.

Tip: Do not be tempted to use on your face…ever. As directed stick to hands, feet and drier areas for this one. A little, and I really mean a little, goes a long way so use sparingly and breathe in those amazing essential oils.

Cost: €30

5. Dr Hauschka Night Serum

For all skin conditions this, for me, is the Rolls-Royce of night serums. Apple blossom, apple fruit hydrosol (water element) and witch hazel help your skin to do what it does best at night…restore and renew.

Tip: If you’re used to a heavy emollient based cream at night ease yourself into this one. Don’t dismiss it because you get a ‘tight’ feel. Trust me, this is a wonder. Again, use sparingly, a pea-sized amount is loads.

Cost: €40

6. Cold Showers

Ok, you can’t exactly put this under the tree but you can share your knowledge with whoever will listen. I’m not saying go into the shower and lash the cold on while you shriek and cry…start off with short bursts of cold at the end and build it up slowly. Over time you will become addicted to the feeling it gives you of being alive, revitalised, energised. Cold showers are proven to improve your skin and mental alertness among other numerous benefits.

Cost: FREEBIE!!!!

7. Lavera Intensive Care Hand Cream

This is one of the best budget buys. Shea butter, jojoba, sweet almond oil…vitamins A and C help with the appearance of ageing and organic chamomile and calendula calm sensitive dry skin…enough said!!!

Tip: Get a pair of cotton moisturising gloves, lather this cream all over your hands and leave gloves on overnight….Boom silky softness come the morn!!!

Cost: €5

8. Willow Cottage Relaxing Lavender and Geranium Calming Eye Pillow

I’m a huge fan of Willow Cottage!! These beauties are filled with lavender and geranium essential oils and linseeds (flaxseeds). Soothing and calming, they’re great for meditating and if you suffer from tension headaches. I use them on clients in my Dr Hauschka treatments…they are divine.

Tip: Bring to your next Yoga class and enjoy a little power nap at the end 😉

Cost: €11

9. Dr Hauschka Rose Day Cream

Cult classic…literally…Madonna, J-Lo, Anne Hatheway, Jessica Alba have all tried and tested this baby. Contains rose petals (obvs!!), rosehips, marsh mallow and St John’s Wort (anti-inflammatory).

Tip: This cream has a very thick consistency…I’m like a broken record but use sparingly. Mix a little with a good body oil moisturiser for your neck and decollete.

Cost: €29

10. Dr Bronner’s Unscented BabyMild Pure Castile Soap

Ok this is a blog post in itself…which I’ll post in the new year when we’re all looking for something to take our minds off the 20 tubs of Roses that are still in our cupboards!!! I use this to make my own liquid hand soaps at home. Mix equal parts distilled water and the castile soap, add a few drops of your favourite essential oils (good quality…I refer you back to our friends at Atlantic Aromatics!!) and there you have your own hand soap. Stay tuned for the blog post though…where I’ll flesh this simple act out a bit more and throw in some pictures 😉

Cost: Starts from €3.69 for the small size

11. Pestle and Mortar Hyaluronic Serum

Ok this is your big spend but it’s worth it. If you know the brand you’ll know they’re Irish and have a great story. So the science bit on hyaluronic acid (HA)…’also known as hyaluronan or hyaluronate, it’s a carbohydrate occurring naturally throughout the human body’. In short, HA loves water but depletes over time leaving us longing for our youthful vitality again. But fear not P&A’s HA to the rescue…and seriously it works.

Tip: Use…yes you’ve got it now…SPARINGLY.

Cost: €43

12. Dr Hauschka Clarifying Clay Mask

We’ll all need a few rounds of this come January. It’s for all skin conditions but is especially good for breakouts. Loess clay, nasturtium and witch hazel unite to loosen dirt particles and lifting them from the skin. It softens blackheads, soothes skin and reduces redness. Yes…I will be using this when the over-indulgence ceases.

Tip: If you already use Dr Hauschka spray a few pumps of your clarifying toner into this when you’re making the paste…give an extra boost.

Cost: €33

There you have it…hopefully you got some ideas for gifts or for yourself!! Thanks for reading and I’ll chat to you in the New Year. Have a very Merry Christmas Everyone…

If you’ve tried and tested any of these let me know how you got on in the comments…you know I love to hear from you all 😉
